Friends of Shropshire Archives Map Sale
Saturday, 7 March 2026, 10am – 1pm
Shropshire Archives, Castle Gates, Shrewsbury SY1 2AQ
Shropshire Archives is disposing of duplicate copies of Ordnance Survey 1:2500 scale maps of Shropshire. These are second editions dated 1900-1904 and third editions dated 1925-30 all of which are £5.00 per sheet. There are also a limited number of first edition maps of Shropshire from the 1880s (some with colour) which are for sale at £10.00 per sheet. The maps are used: some are torn, some have annotations, and a few are photocopies, but many are in good condition.
The map grid FSA Map Sale Map on the Friends’ website shows the available maps. You can zoom into any area of the grid to see which maps are available and also search by placename or postcode. The grid is colour coded:
1st edition: red
2nd edition: green
3rd edition: blue
Clicking on any grid rectangle will show a pop-up detailing the map sheet number and edition. Use the layer icon (top navigation button on bottom-right of the grid) to select which editions you wish to see (they are all visible by default). The intensity of the coloured shading indicates the relative quantity of each sheet available.
To buy any of the maps:
- Note the sheet number(s) you wish to purchase and which edition you would like.
- You can reserve maps in advance of the sale, by emailing chair@friendsofshropshirearchives.org with your request. On confirmation that your maps are available you will need to pay for them by BACS to the Friends of Shropshire Archives, sort code 20-85-46, account number 70388343 using the reference ‘[your surname] maps’.
- Collect your maps on the day of the sale, Saturday, 7 March between 10-1pm.
- Payment can also be made in cash or by cheque for purchases made on the day of the sale.
Please address all enquiries to chair@friendsofshropshirearchives.org, not to Shropshire Archives staff.
